Narrator: Two Russian schoolgirls, Irina and Natasha, were lucky enough to come to London with their respective parents. They were also lucky enough to stray away from their parents for a little while just to feel free and grown-up. Irina is 17, and Natasha is a year younger than her friend. We all know how much most young people want to prove to others just how big and independent they can be. But that’s not the point of the following scene. The matter is that our characters are still in London, stuck, and they have gotten very hungry by now. They want to drop in on some cafe ['kэfei] Am. [ke'fei] to have a meal. Fortunately, they have a lot of money on them--about fifty pounds.

IN THE STREET - на улице
Natasha: I wonder what street we are in.
Ira: According to the map, we’re in the Strand. Don’t you feel hungry yet, Natasha?
Natasha: Yes, I do. I’m so hungry I can eat a horse.
Ira: So am I. How much money have we got on us, I wonder?
Natasha: About 50 pounds, why?
Ira: Whoe! That means we’re pretty rich today, aren’t we? We can actually afford that nice-looking cafe! Isn’t it inviting us? Whaddaya (= What do you) say?
Natasha: Which one?
Ira: That one. Just look over there across the street.
Natasha: Wow! It looks more like a restaurant. But is it decent for us to go in?
Ira: Never mind that! We’re big girls, and we’re in the money. Your father gave us some bread to spend, didn’t he? ... Now, let’s go in and let’s have a little royal feast of our own.
Natasha: Yeah, perhaps, it sounds like a good idea. Besides, it’s dinnertime now, isn’t it?
Ira: Yes, it is. Let’s go.
